Geothermal power use steam produced from reservoirs of hot water found deep below the Earth’s surface to produce electricity. The steam rotates a turbine that activates a generator, which produces electricity.
Concentrating solar power (CSP)
CSP is a solar power generation technology also called thermodynamical solar energy. In this technology, mirrors are used to concentrate the sun’s rays in order to heat a working fluid and produces steam through heat exchangers. The steam drives a turbine and generates power in the same way as conventional plants.
Ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC)
OTEC is also a power generation technology. A working fluid with low boiling point is vaporized using the ocean’s warm surface water. The vapor expands and spins a turbine coupled to a generator to produce electricity. The vapor is then cooled by seawater that has been pumped from the deeper ocean layer; That condenses the working fluid back into a liquid, so it can be resued.
