The NEOTISS’ factory in Hyderabad successfully delivered welded titanium condenser tubes for the first time in December 2014.

The Indian factory, which has 16 years of experience in supplying stainless steel tubes for heat exchangers used in power plants, produced and delivered titanium tubes for the 3 x 135 MW Misamis Oriental Power Station, Philippines.
The 405 MW project is being handled in the island of Mindanao by FDC Misamis Power Corp., a subsidiary of developer Filinvest. It is the biggest project in northern Mindanao and it is expected to provide electricity to support the economic development of the province, using the latest clean coal technology with a circulating fluidized bed boiler. The three units, which are expected to be commissioned by 2016, will use seawater as a coolant. For that reason grade 2 titanium was selected for the condenser tubes, as it presents very good corrosion resistance in a seawater environment.

At the NEOTISS’ factory in India a manufacturing line had been dedicated entirely to the production of titanium tubes. Apart from eddy current testing, ultrasonic testing and air pressure differential tests have been performed on 100 % of the tubes supplied. The 388 km's of welded titanium tubes were produced and delivered in just 5 months to Larsen & Toubro, which expressed its satisfaction with the product quality and on-time delivery. Larsen & Toubro is fabricating the three condensers on behalf of Alstom, which had won the tender to deliver the three turbines and generator sets as well as the condensers for the project.
NEOTISS already had long experience in supplying titanium tubes from its factories in the USA, France, Korea and China. This first delivery of titanium tubes from India now opens up perspectives for the Hyderabad factory to expand its activities in titanium tubing. Apart from power generation, titanium welded tubes are also used in condensers for various desalination and process applications.
